12 October patch: match v1.2.4.1 to the symptom

The official v1.2.4.1 notes, reviewed 13 October, list fixes for a crash while aiming at a conveyor with multiple Throughput Monitors after one was recently dismantled, a dedicated-server crash when placing a Conveyor Throughput Monitor, and an exit-audio crash involving UFGFAnimInstanceFactory::AudioEventCallback.

Finish the available update and record your actual version before comparing the same failure stage. If the server process exits, use the dedicated-server guide; that is different from a running server whose API or network route fails. These named developer fixes do not establish that every startup, save-loading, GPU or memory-allocation crash is fixed. Keep the backup and diagnostic steps below for other symptoms.

Check the scope and patch first

This guide covers Windows PC on Steam or Epic, including a player hosting a co-op factory. Dedicated-server administration and console-specific repairs are outside its scope. We reviewed the original support and patch sources on 14 September 2026, the memory-allocation sources on 15 September, and the regional-save crash report on 16 September. We did not test a running game client.

The 11 August v1.2.4.0 announcement lists an AFGRainAudioSubsystem crash fix and several other stability fixes. Finish available updates and record your actual version and branch. A similar symptom after that patch does not prove the same bug survived.

Protect your factory before comparing saves

Close the game normally. Copy %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames to a separate, dated backup location, as recommended by official support. Check that the copied files are present. Cloud sync is not a substitute for an independent copy.

Keep the original factory untouched. Create a distinctly named temporary session for comparisons; do not overwrite your main save or save over it after removing mods. If you cannot identify your saves confidently, stop before moving or changing them.

Identify the failure stage

This table is our suggested diagnostic order, not a confirmed list of causes.

What you observe Useful next comparison
The game closes before the menu Record the exact message; verify files and inspect any graphics error
The error says “Ran out of memory” or “The paging file is too small” Use the memory-allocation branch; do not treat it as a GPU or VRAM diagnosis
The menu works, but one factory fails to load Compare a new unmodded save with the existing factory
The factory loads, but entering the same area always crashes Preserve the original save; compare a new save and another area, then report the exact location and error rather than repeatedly entering it
A factory runs, then crashes near saving or rain Record the last action, elapsed time and error; compare another save
The host closes while a friend is joining Investigate the host crash first; then use the loading-screen guide
The game stays open on a loading screen Follow the loading-screen guide rather than treating it as a crash
Windows blue-screens or the whole PC restarts Stop repeated launches and preserve the Windows stop code

Crashing near an autosave does not establish that saving is the cause. Record whether a manual save also fails, without repeatedly risking the only copy of your factory.

If the game stays open but feels slow or uneven rather than closing, the cause is more likely a late-game performance limit than a crash. See the late-game performance guide for RAM, page-file and known 1.2 crash classes that can look like a frame-rate problem.

Verify once, then follow the result

Complete pending game downloads before testing. In Steam, use Library → Satisfactory → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files. In Epic, use Library → Satisfactory’s three-dot menu → Manage → Verify. Wait for completion and retry the original failure path.

Already verified or reinstalled without improvement? Record that outcome and move to a comparison. Installation verification does not prove that a particular save or mod history is healthy.

  1. Record installed mods and their versions. Use your existing mod manager’s documented controls to disable them for the temporary session.
  2. Launch a new unmodded save. If it fails too, save that error: the original factory is no longer the only failing case.
  3. If the new save works, preserve the existing factory for investigation. That difference points toward its contents, workload or mod history; it does not prove corruption.
  4. If failure only happens with another player joining, compare the host playing alone and then the same join attempt. Keep settings unchanged.

If the factory loads but the same location repeatedly crashes, that is not a “missing save.” One recent player report remained unresolved after file verification and an editor upload attempt. Do not use the only copy for repeated entry tests or promise that an editor can repair it. Preserve the original, record the location and error, and compare a copied save or a new unmodded session. If the file itself cannot be found, switch to the save-location and backup guide.

Official support warns that mod effects can remain in a save after uninstalling mods. Removing a few mods or reinstalling the game therefore does not establish a clean save comparison.

Use the graphics branch only for a matching error

If the crash names DirectX, D3D11, D3D12 or Vulkan, official support suggests checking hardware requirements, graphics drivers and the rendering API. Record the current driver and API first; obtain driver guidance from your GPU or PC manufacturer.

Try one alternative in the game’s Video settings. If the menu is inaccessible, support documents launch arguments such as -dx11 and -dx12: record existing arguments, use only one renderer argument for the comparison and remove it if it does not help. Do not stack them.

DX11 is not a universal repair: a public player report includes a D3D11 crash after earlier improvement. A GPU crash message alone also does not identify failed hardware. Restore ineffective optional changes before the next comparison.

If Windows says the paging file is too small

Use this branch only when the error contains “Ran out of memory” or “The paging file is too small for this operation to complete.” One 6 September Steam review reported both messages. It was one of ten recent negative English reviews in this refresh; build, RAM and free-space details are unknown. This confirms the wording, not a common Satisfactory memory bug or exhausted VRAM.

  1. Save open work, close unnecessary applications and keep your factory backup.
  2. Open Task Manager → Performance → Memory. Record Committed as current charge/limit, plus free space on the Windows drive and any drive hosting a page file. Microsoft says the system commit limit is based on physical memory plus page files; a system-managed page file needs free disk space to grow.
  3. Check Windows’ current virtual-memory setting. Only if the page file was manually disabled or capped, consider returning it to Automatically manage paging file size for all drives after noting the old setting and reading the Windows warning. Microsoft gives no universal fixed GB value. Do not edit the registry or copy an arbitrary forum value.
  4. Restart if Windows requests it, then retry the same failure stage after this one controlled change.

If paging is already system-managed with free disk space, or the exact error returns, stop enlarging it blindly. Do not assume buying RAM will fix an unknown cause. Record the exact error, Committed values, free space, game build and your change, then use official Satisfactory support and its Q&A route.

Stop with a useful support report

If the updated, verified client still fails on a new unmodded save, or the same factory repeatedly fails while the new one works, use the official Q&A site. Include:

  • Steam or Epic, game version and branch, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM and driver version.
  • Exact error or crash-reporter text, failure time and time zone, and whether you were host, client or alone.
  • Save and mod history, steps to reproduce, and the result of each comparison, including unsuccessful ones.

Review attachments for personal information before sharing. Keep backups; do not delete the entire Saved folder, edit the registry or change BIOS settings as a generic repair. Repeated PC restarts need a separate system-support investigation. A brief successful launch is encouraging, but repeat the original failure stage before calling recovery confirmed.
