The short answer
Minimum: Windows 10/11 64-bit, Core i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 2600X (AVX2 required), 8 GB RAM, GTX 1060 / RX 480 / Arc A380 with 4 GB VRAM, and 90 GB on an SSD. Without AVX2 the game cannot run at all.

Mac and Linux versions exist through Steam; Intel Macs are not supported.
Every CPU must support AVX2
The single most important requirement is easy to miss: every supported processor must support AVX2, and older chips without it cannot run the game at all.
- On Steam, open Help → System Information and read the processor features line. Look for AVX2 specifically, not just AVX.
- No software switch, compatibility mode or reinstall removes this requirement.
- If your CPU passes AVX2 but the game still will not start, follow our launch troubleshooting guide instead.
Storage: 90 GB on an SSD
The store page lists 90 GB and states an SSD is required. A mechanical drive is not a supported configuration, and long loading times are one of the most common launch-week complaints.
Laptops and the dedicated GPU
If your laptop has integrated graphics plus a dedicated card, make sure the game uses the dedicated GPU: Windows Settings → Display → Graphics → add the game’s executable and choose High performance. Running on the integrated GPU is a common cause of the performance complaints in early Steam reviews.
After you meet the requirements
Meeting the minimum does not guarantee smooth late-game performance: bigger maps, higher population and dense networks all load the processor, and population is fixed when you create a save. If the game runs but stutters as your network grows, see our low FPS and stuttering guide.
