AION 2 Won't Launch: NCGUARD, UE Fatal Error and PURPLE Cache

This guide covers the Global PC version through Steam and PURPLE. Community launch reports were reviewed on October 25, 2026. We have not reproduced the crashes in a running client.

Clear the PURPLE launcher cache

If AION 2 crashes immediately after the logo, start with the launcher, not Windows tweaks. Corrupted temporary data can desync the launcher and client after an update or auth change.

• Fully close AION 2 and PURPLE; check Task Manager for a leftover PURPLE.exe or Aion2.exe and end it.
• Reopen PURPLE and use its cache reset or cleanup option if present.
• If the launcher has no option, press Windows + R, enter %localappdata%, and remove the PURPLE Cache folder so it rebuilds. You may need to sign into your NCSOFT account again — that is expected.

NCGUARD 0xE0000013

Community reports describe this anti-cheat error closing the game during startup. Reversible local checks:

• Add the game folder and the NCGUARD folder to your antivirus exclusions.
• Run the launcher as administrator.
• Verify the game files from the PURPLE or Steam launcher tool.

These are local checks, not a guarantee; if NCGUARD still blocks launch, contact NC support with the exact code.

UE fatal error

A clean boot often isolates the cause, so work top to bottom:

1. Clean-install the NVIDIA or AMD GPU driver (use the vendor’s own tool, not a quick update).
2. Avoid GPU or CPU overclocking while troubleshooting.
3. Close MSI Afterburner and RivaTuner completely.
4. Repair or reinstall both the x64 and x86 Visual C++ redistributables, then restart Windows.
5. Verify / repair AION 2 files through PURPLE or Steam.
6. Clear shader caches, then let shader compilation finish before entering the game.

Login server and verification

• “Unable to connect to the login server”: fully restart the launcher, sign out and back into your NC account, set Windows time to automatic, and disable any VPN.
• Error 40309:500 (“a temporary error has occurred”) clusters around phone verification on the Korea and Taiwan versions. Stop requesting codes, wait for the temporary limit to clear, then request one new code. The international version does not require phone or identity verification — use the Global client via Steam or PURPLE.
• A “Block Code” window points to software NC blocks. Note the code; if removing the tool does not help, contact support.

What we have not confirmed

These are community-reported steps, not official confirmation that a given error is fixed, and we have not tested them in a running client. If an exact block or error code persists, send it to NC support with the steps you already tried.
